How to make the switch to a healthier lifestyle WITHOUT having to give up coffee (and staying sane in the process 😅)

Okay. Let me start off by saying I’m a coffee junkie.

Usually, I drink up to what??? 2 cups a day???  Yup. I can’t go a day without having my cup of coffee. I think I get this from my dad because ever since ever, I’ve never seen my dad without a cup of coffee-morning…night…afternoon, he has his coffee. It’s pretty obvious that he was the one who introduced me to it and ever since then, I’ve been addicted.

It’s funny because this is actually a big problem for me. Unfortunately, I have hyperacidity and so I would get really tummy aches if I drank too much coffee. There was one time, it got so bad that I had to stop for 2 weeks… but that was as long as I could go. I started drinking coffee soon after BUT THIS TIME AROUND, I always made sure to EAT BEFORE I drank my coffee.

So that’s my personal background.

This blog post is for all you who want to live a healthier lifestyle but are hesitant because you think you’ll have to give up the things you love. Coffee for me could be french fries or potato chips for you. Yeah, the internet may say that you should not eat this or not do that but I personally believe that being healthy doesn’t require you to give up what you love. Because in the end, it’s all about BALANCE, MODERATION & DISCIPLINE.

And so, here are 10 ways you can live a healthier lifestyle without having to give up those things you love:

1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER

THIS IS LITERALLY ON EVERY HEALTH SITE BECAUSE IT IT LEGIT. Water is the most important thing your body needs to function.We need to drink at least 9 cups of water=2.2L every single day. This allows our body to receive all the nutrients and vitamins we need while hydrating and cleansing it in the process.

To be honest, I still need to work on this. There are times when I’m thirsty but I choose to deal with it because I’m lazy to go get water. WRONG. If you are lazy, bring a jug with you wherever you go!!! I’ve even seen pictures of people bringing a 2L jug of water with markings reminding them to finish it! That way water won’t ever be out of reach. Also, if you need constant reminding, download apps that could help like PLANT NANNY. My friends started using this and they said that it really reminds and motivates them to drink water. The more water they drink, the more their plant will grow 🙂

Drinking lots of water is a given to be at your tip top shape. I’ve asked friends who started drinking more water how it has improved their lives and they told me that ONE, they barely got sick anymore, TWO their skin cleared up and THREE they felt more energized and hydrated throughout the day.

Here’s a tip: DRINK A GLASS OF WATER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. It is important to do this because drinking water first thing in the morning helps purify and cleanse our bodies as well as give us the proper hydration!I do this every morning and it really does magic! Not only do I feel cleansed but I feel more awake and energized!

2. EAT BREAKFAST

A lot of health specialists say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is because it is what gives you the energy to make the day AMAZING (really though).

To the people who skip breakfast because they wake up late/have so many things to do/prefer lunch or dinner: I AM YOU.

I like to wake up right when I need to and so I barely have time to eat breakfast. THIS IS NOT GOOD. I learned the hard way when I had really bad stomach pains one day. I thought it was ulcer, LUCKILY it wasn’t. But that’s when I realized it is NOT A JOKE TO SKIP BREAKFAST. Since then, I have always made sure to eat breakfast no matter if I wake up late or I’m busy or I’m in a rush. Because if there’s a will, there’s a way (REALLY).

And so to those who are just like me: find time to eat breakfast! And go for a healthy one! It doesn’t have to be super big or complicated or pretty (like you see in those health blogs hahaha) or anything like that. You could stay really simple. Here are some examples: If you know you’re going to have a busy morning then grab some whole grain cereal (with bananas and strawberries hehe) you can eat while working, if you’re in a rush to leave the house, grab some yogurt on your way out you can eat in the car (try going for zero sugar yogurt!), or if you’re driving, maybe you can get something easy like apple slices or a whole grain sandwich! To be honest, it’s not that hard. And so if you can, go to the grocery store today and get the things you need! So that you can start tomorrow! Trust me, you wouldn’t want to learn the hard way.

3. HEALTHY SNAKCS THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Have you ever had the urge to grab a bag of chips from the pantry? Or a bowl of ice cream from the freezer? Well, I feel you. It isn’t easy. But once you realize that healthy snacks can be yummy too, you’ll never miss those bag of chips again (except maybe after a few days hahaha)

Like I said, it’s about moderation. Make it a point to moderate the junkfood you eat.  I like to limit myself to eating junkfood at most, twice a week and the rest of the days I stick to healthy snacks! Healthy food like dried fruits, fruit salad, fruit slices, almonds (hehe) and yogurt! Something I’d like to try are those healthy parfait bowls!!! THEY LOOK SO GOOD. Will find time to try and make them! Will keep you guys posted when I do 😉

4. LIMIT FASTFOOD

This has been the ultimate challenge for me. REALLY. I love Mcdo. I love KFC. I love Jollibee. Like how do I live without them!!! Well, tbh, you don’t have to. Instead LIMIT IT. I limited my fastfood intake to once a week. YUP. And I am telling you now it is VERY HARD. I have to resist and be like NO. Sometimes I give in which ISNT GOOD. But HEY, I’m still human. And I am getting there very slowly!

An idea that will keep you guys SANE is to start at 3 times a week and move down from there. This is especially to those who live in dorms/condos. I know it’s hard to do this but you WILL FEEL HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER when you are able to resist the temptation that is either in the form of super crunchy salty fries or a big-ass juicy burger!!!!! You will feel stronger. I can promise you that! And when you finally do get to eat your one fastfood meal,  it’ll taste so much more victorious!

5. CUT OUT SODA & ICED TEA FROM YOUR LIFE

Who here drinks soda/iced tea like it’s their water? Yup. Happens everyday, all the time!!! When you go through a drive through, it’s your default drink. But here’s something to remember for you guys: it’s ALL SUGAR.

Learn to not settle just because you’re lazy to say “no drink” or explain to the cashier that you want bottled water instead. I have given up soda completely and my tummy has never felt better. Iced tea is still a problem for me because unfortunately, it is my default drink, but I am getting there.

Either order water or fresh juice or fruit shakes without sugar! Your body will thank you later and you will feel so much more energized instead of groggy or draggy.

6. EXERCISE

Here we go. My favorite. (Because I am not the type to consistently exercise BAHAHA)

Let’s be real. If you wanna be healthier and lose weight in the process, IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT DIETING. Exercise and dieting go HAND IN HAND. There is not one without the other no matter what. If you stick to just dieting, you’ll end up feeling weak because of the cut down on foods/protein/sugar. Exercise helps your body stay strong and fit. It gets your heart pumping!!! On the other hand, if you just choose to exercise and not moderate your food intake then you’ll have a problem too and that would be the problem of “no effect”. If you exercise but choose to eat all the junk in the world then sure you might look good but you will certainly not FEEL GOOD. It’s different to look good on the outside but feel bad on the inside. Exercise and diet help you feel good both inside and outside.

Here are some tips for those who are just starting out.

– find a type of exercise you enjoy (this could take time – it took me years to find my perfect exercise which I will mention in a bit but trust me you’ll exercise more if you enjoy what you’re doing!)

take it easy on yourself at the start (if you start so hard on yourself you might be doing more harm than good… take it easy!!! you’ll get to where you wanna be!)

– be CONSISTENT: this is my problem. hahaha I get lazy and so I end up messing up my routine and it SUCKS. If you wanna get somewhere and you want to achieve your “body goals”: BE CONSISTENT. Make a schedule that allows you to be consistent!!!! Do it for yourself because trust me the more consistent you are, the sooner you will see results.

FIND A WORKOUT BUDDY!!! (THIS REALLY HELPS. I started working out with some of my friends and wow do I feel determined! Because being with them motivates me to do my best. We all have the same goal and we’re reaching it together!)

– be sure to find a routine that covers every aspect: STRENGTH TRAINING, CARDIO & FLEXIBILITY!!!

This is my workout routine, just so you guys know! It is VERY SIMPLE. Even beginners can try it out!

For CARDIO, I run at least 3 times a week. I jog for 30 minutes and then I sprint along my street in front of my house (I do this a few times). I’ve always liked running. It has always been my thing. When I was younger, I was into running sports like softball, handball and relays. And so I knew it would be the perfect cardio exercise for me. Plus my village is BEAUTIFUL and so it inspires me to run! (that’s another tip: find a place to run that inspires you!!!)

For my STRENGTH TRAINING & FLEXIBILITY, I do YOGA. I try to go at least 2 times a week. I started recently and it has been AMAZING!!!! I enjoy it so much! Many people think yoga is just about stretching but NOOOOO. It is way more than that. When I practice yoga, I am able to clear my mind and focus on myself and my body. It makes me stronger inside and out. Also, I love how I am so connected to my teacher during practice. My friend, Cathy Dario, who was also my HS batchmate, is now a yoga teacher after practicing for 2 years. She treats yoga like an art that connects to the mind, body and heart.

All you need to start is a yoga mat, a jug, and determination!

Here’s a tip for yoga: go to a studio/find a teacher who you can connect to. You will appreciate it so much more.

7. NO MEAT THURSDAYS

I recently started this and so far it has been a challenge. I got this idea from an article I read about “saving the world” and so I decided to give it a try. You can actually pick any day you want but try to go meatless once a week. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE NOT GOING TO EAT ANYTHING. Some people get lazy to make a salad or look for healthier food and so they prefer to tough it out and not eat. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. Make the effort to go out and get healthy food!!! You are doing yourself and the world a HUGE FAVOR.

8. HEALTHY DRINKS: SMOOTHIES, JUICES & TEA

This is what you should crave for instead of milkshakes or soda floats!!!! Switch to healthier drinks! Have you even seen the drinks they post on health blogs/sites? THEY LOOK SUPER YUMMY.

I noticed though that a lot of the drinks are hard to make because you need a lot of raw ingredients which maybe you currently don’t have on hand. But if that is the case, then start simple! You could squeeze fruits to make fresh juice or blend fruits with ice to make a yummy smoothie! And then if you want to explore more options, then research the raw foods you can buy to make different drinks! You can buy a lot in Healthy Options or on this site: http://healthyhouseph.com! I bought a few things and I’m planning to release another blog post soon about the different drinks I learn to make and so stay tuned! 😉

Aside from juices and smoothies, you can also start drinking caffeine-free tea! Green tea, chamomile and ginger tea are actually really good for you! And what makes them great is that all it takes to make tea is a cup of hot water! You can buy different kinds from Healthy Options! 🙂

9. FIX YOUR BODY CLOCK

TADAAAA every student/working fresh graduates nightmare!!! I mean, with all the work and things you have to do, how is it possible to have a regular sleeping schedule? The thing is, it is possible but it takes DISCIPLINE. It’s all about time management. Like, if you know you have a lot of work to do, then skip the hangout at night with friends (there is always tomorrow or the next day or the next) or if you have a party the next day and you know you won’t have time to do your homework, then find time to get it done as soon as possible. This way when it’s time to sleep, it’s time to sleep and you’re NOT CRAMMING YOUR WORK INSTEAD. SLEEPING IS IMPORTANT.

I know it’s a hard. I would know because I am an owl. I live during the night. But trust me, you will feel so much better once your sleep patterns are regular. I read an article on Time Magazine that said sleeping between 8pm-12mn ensures that you’ll have a good night’s sleep: “Every hour of sleep before midnight is worth two after midnight”. Keep that in mind!

Also, try to keep your waking up times as consistent as possible. Wake up around 8 or 9. You would have had 9 hours of sleep which is PERFECT.

You’d be surprised as to how much work/activities you can fit in the day once you have the right amount of sleep.

10. COFFEE & TEA

Here comes my finale!!! And of course it is about coffee. Going back to the first part of this blog, I am a coffee girl. FOR SURE. NOT QUESTIONS ASKED. And so how can I be healthy? It’s all about BALANCE. I have decided to stop drinking coffee at night and limit it to one cup a day (morning). At night, instead of another cup of coffee, I have switched to detox tea which has been really helpful. It is CAFFEINE FREE btw hahaha. I chose this because detox tea helps clean your system after a long day.

I know that one cup of coffee a day may still seem like a lot but I believe that if I keep going, it’ll eventually go down and I won’t have to be so dependent on it anymore because I will be focusing on other things keeping me healthy. It’s just that you gotta start somewhere. This is where I am… and where I hope to be? Well, that’s still a long way from here. But I’ll get there: slowly but surely.

So those were the 10 ways you could switch to a healthier lifestyle WITHOUT having to give up coffee or the things you love (and staying sane in the process) This is for EVERYONE! Beginners or specialists, young or old, girls or boys, and so GO GO GO.

There’s no better day to start than today!!!

Everyday Make-Up Routine (Drugstore & High-end brands 💄)

I, for one, think that make-up isn’t about covering something up but highlighting something beautiful.

Today, I will be sharing with you my everyday make-up routine with a few twists! 😉

 For this post, I will 1.) be writing about both drugstore brands as well as high-end brands so that you can get the best of both worlds and 2.) be including extra steps such as contour & highlight (even though I don’t use them everyday) for those who do!

TADAAAAAA  these are the products I am using for today’s post!!! I put them in order from beauty cream to lipstick and put the drugstore products and high-end products side by side so that you can see the two. Also, when you click each photo, it’ll specify the brand and shade I used.

Oval Paddle Make-up Brushes from @makeuphaul_ph

I bought these brushes about a month ago but I only stated using them two weeks ago and omg I am annoyed at myself for not trying them right away! They are amazing! I’ve been using the big oval brush to apply my foundation and I love how it looks afterward. My face never ends up looking cakey/thick because this brush really blends the foundation on your skin but at the same time, the right amount of coverage is still there! I use the second biggest brush (4th from left) to blend in my contour and highlight. Note: I only use stick contour and so it’s perfect for me because a normal sponge would just wipe it away instead of blending it. I use the long pointy brush (5th from left) to draw my contour. Sometimes the stick is too thick and so I prefer to draw it on my face with this brush. Works like a charm! I use the third biggest brush (2nd from left) and the left most brush to apply my concealer. I usually use my fingers to dab my liquid concealer on my face and then I blend it with these brushes. Lastly, I use the small pointy brush on my eyes, usually for my bottom eyelash line. It is so much easier to use this than a regular eye brush!

Just a note when buying these kinds of brushes: make sure they arent too hard/rough or too soft. If they’re too hard, you might end up irritating your skin. If they’re too soft, it’ll be hard to blend your make-up. So in-between is what’s best! 🙂

Now onto the make-up part!

DRUGSTORE BRANDS!!!

Most of these if not all can be bought at drugstores such as PCX and Watsons.

STEP 1: FOUNDATION

Before putting my make-up, I always make sure to finish my morning skincare routine first and wait at least 30-45 minutes so that the products are properly absorbed. Also, before putting my foundation on, I like to use SON&PARK’s beauty cream. It’s a light white cream that smoothens my skin & preps my it for all the make-up.

For this look, I’m using Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte + Poreless in shade 110 Porcelain. This foundation is actually a bit too light for me and so I usually mix it with the same kind of foundation but a darker shade (120 Classic Ivory) which is, on the other hand, too dark for me. To be honest, I have a hard time finding the right color of foundation because my skin is acidic and so the perfect shade for me would actually end up looking too dark.

I like to apply my foundation using my fingers byputting dots all over my face (as seen in the super awkward picture to the right hahaha). I do this so that my foundation is really spread out. Afterwards, I blend it with my big oval brush. This foundation is easy to blend as compared to others and it has a medium coverage.

Always make sure your concealer is one shade lighter than your foundation! For this look, I’m using Revlon’s Colorstay in Fair. When putting concealer, I like to make upside down triangles under my eyes! Don’t just cover your eyebags, extend it! That way it looks more natural and you don’t look like a zombie. Aside from under my eyes, I also put concealer on some of my blemishes using the smallest oval brush! Try not to cover fresh pimples though because you’ll be doing more harm than good. Let them breathe so they can heal faster!

STEP 3: BLEND YOUR FACE MAKE-UP AND SET WITH POWDER

Blend everything with your brushes! Don’t press too hard on your skin though or else the make-up would just come off. Before moving on, I like setting my face make-up already with my setting powder, in this case Coty’s Airspun Translucent Loose Powder. That way when I apply the rest of the make-up, my face make-up won’t be affected/wiped off. Because sometimes when you don’t set your face make-up, it blends with your blush/contour and it gets all cakey and patchy which ends up not looking great 😦

STEP 4: EYEBROWS & EYE MAKE-UP

For this look, I’m using Brow Arist powder pencil from L’Oreal! It’s the natural brown shade. Brow make-up was one of the first things I got into in terms of this field (is that the right word??) When I was a kid, I bumped my face on a wall (LOL STUPID I KNOW) and so I grew up with this scar on my right eyebrow. I hated it. I mean, there’s a long bald line on my right eyebrow!!!!! hahahah and so anyway, I didn’t want it to be seen and so I researched on brow make-up and since then, I’ve been very into it.

I used to go dark and thick with the dipbrow pomade but recently, I started getting into more naturally looking brows. And so I’ve been using powder/liquid products such as the kind they sell in koren make-up stores! I use the k-palette 24 hours one! (It’s a bit pricey but SUPER WORTH IT!)

Don’t forget to blend your brows so that they’ll look much more natural instead of like a stick hahaha I’ve seen people with eyebrows as if they drew them on with a black marker. And personally, that’s not my thing. But hey, if you’re into that, by all means, go ahead!!!

For my eyeliner, I am using Maybelline’s Pencil Eyeliner (black)! I like this eyeliner because it is affordable but sometimes, it can smudge easily and I tend to rub my eyes and so…. yeah. Not really for me! 😦 For my mascara, I am using Maybelline’s Mega Plush Mascara! CAN I JUST SAY. Maybelline makes really good mascaras?? PLUS THEY ARE SUPER AFFORDABLE. If you’re looking for a mascara that isn’t pricey, go for Maybelline! I promise you won’t be disappointed!!! Afterwards, I use my Nippon Eyelash curler to curl my lashes!

For my everyday eye mak-up, I like to keep it simple and so most of the time, I don’t wear eyeshadow at all. But for this post, I decided to throw it in. Im using this eyeshadow palette my friend bought for me from Japan (HI LIZZIE!). It’s small but simple. For my whole lid, I used a glitery gold color and then just in the middle part, I added a bit of a rose gold color. I’m not sure if you see it but hopefully you do. And that’s it! I usually only put eyeshadow if I’m feeling dull or tired or pale so that it brightens up my eyes and eventually my whole face.

STEP 5: CONTOURING TIME! (OPTIONAL)

So this is optional because I don’t use contour everyday but I’m adding it here in my post for those who do 🙂

I like using cream contour sticks instead of powder. For me, the finish is more natural looking and it blends better with all the make-up.

For this look, I am using Maybelline’s Master Contour and Highlight stick. Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetIt’s kinda sad though cause I only needed one side of the stick which is the contour side and so now that side is flat while the other side is round which makes it kind of hard to use. I don’t use it directly on my face anymore though, I use the thin oval brush to draw it on my face so the lines are thinner and more precise as seen in the pictures 🙂

Before blending though, be sure to highlight your forehead (between your brows), the bridge of your nose, your chin and under the contour on your cheekbones with concealer so that your features are more highlighted and defined. Make sure to blend everything well! I like using the second biggest oval brush to blend everything in so that I end up with a more natural look.

As you  can see, I have an oval shaped face and so contouring is a big help for me during performances/gigs but for my everyday look, I like to embrace my chubby cheeks and just keep it simple.

STEP 6 & 7: BLUSH AND HIGHLIGHTER (HIGHLIGHTER IS OPTIONAL)

For my blush, I am using Milani’s Baked Blush (02 Rose d’Oro). I bought this in the States and I absolutely love it plus the price is pretty good! I love how you don’t need much. It’s already super saturated and so you only need to apply a bit on your cheeks and then you’re good to go!

For my highlighter, I am using Wet n Wild’s Rainbow Highlighter! I actually bought this (impulsively) online but I don’t regret it one bit because it is very pretty. It’s very soft, not too strong but still gives you that kind of shine you want. It’s perfect if you’re going for an everyday natural make-up look! Apply the highlighter with a fan brush on top of your cheekbones, the tip of your nose and above your lip!

Lastly, the picture isn’t included here but…

STEP 8: SETTING SPRAY

I’ve been using the same setting spray since September, (it’s not a drugstore brand though but it is the best!) Make Up For Ever make-up setting spray! It’s gold!!!! 2-3 sprays are already enough! I use it all the time! Especially for gigs! Because when we put a lot of make-up we tend to look cakey and powdery but this setting spray makes our face glow and at the same time makes all the make-up look natural! I recommend this especially to theater people! My make-up lasts the whole day which is a big plus for me considering that I wear stage make-up almost every weekend.

HIGH-END BRANDS!!!

STEP 1: FOUNDATION

For this look, I am using Urban Decay NAKED Skin One and Done Hybrid Skin Perfector in shade Light-Medium. I was researching online and I saw that this foundation has many good reviews. Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetIt doesn’t only serve as a foundation but also gives skin treatment and protection. It aims to even your skin tone as well as make your pores smaller! Isn’t that great? Compared to Maybelline’s Fit Me though, this foundation is a bit harder to blend because it’s thicker. And so make sure to spread it evenly (use your fingers to put dots all over your face) and blend it well with the big oval paddle brush!

STEP 2: CONCEALER

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetHere I am using Etude House’s Big Cushion Concealer in shade sand! I love cushion concealers because they are so easy to apply and blend! Plus this cushion concealer smells really nice and I like that 🙂 As you can see in the picture, I dabbed a bit of concealer under my eyes, extending it to an upside triangle like a while ago because this helps the overall look look more natural.

STEP 3: BLEND & SET

Don’t forget to blend your make-up well! This look was harder to blend because of the foundation and so I took a bit more time doing this!

TADAAAA it’s done! As you can see I blended my make-up. I also set it with RCMA’s No Color Powder (which I love btw!) Best setting powder I tried so far!!! The finish is not cakey or powdery at all! Very VERY natural!

STEP 4: EYEBROWS & EYE MAKE-UP

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetMy brows are a bit darker for this look but I’m still keeping them natural-looking! For this, I am using, Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate. I was supposed to get dark brown but it looked too dark on me and so I decided to use this chocolate-y shade which I really like! Again, I did not make my brows super dark. I only used a bit and just blended it for a more natural look.

For my eyeliner, I am using my favorite one, Browhaus heavy duty bi-liner! Note: I use this eyeliner for my everyday look instead of liquid eyeliner because it looks more natural. I love how this eyeliner is subtle but at the same time does its job!

Eyeshadow time! For this look, I am using Tarte’s Tartelette Palette & Juvia’s Nubian 2 Palette! I like using my fingers to apply my eyeshadow when I’m doing an everyday make-up look. First, because it’s easier and second because you can put more product. I used the color “Super mom” from the Tarte palette for my base. And then after, I used the color “Zuri” from the Nubian 2 palette which is a bit gold-ish (similar to my first look). I topped it off with “Nefertiti“, a pinky-orange-y glitery shadow, just in the middle area of my lid.

STEP 5: CONTOURING TIME! (Optional)

Again, this is optional. I don’t usually include contour in my everyday make-up rountine but this is for those who do! For this look, I am using TonyMoly’s cream stick contour in the darkest shade. Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetAs you can see, I really love my cream contours. I just think they look more natural compared to powder.

Im not sure if you notice but this contour is lighter than the Maybelline one and so I prefer to use this for a more natural look.

STEP 6 & 7: BLUSH & HIGHLIGHTER (AGAIN, HIGHLIGHTER IS OPTIONAL)

Almost done with this look! For this, I am using Tarte’s Amazonian Clay in shade sensual and I am telling you now THIS IS IT. It says it’s supposed to stay on for 12-hours and it does!!! I would put this on before working out just to try it out and after it is still there! This is a big deal for me because I am naturally very pale. I wish I had those naturally rosy cheeks but I don’t and so it’s important for me to find the perfect blush and THIS IS IT. Plus it looks so natural and it’s the perfect shade of peach! Don’t put too much though or else you’ll end up looking orange!

For my highlighter, I am using Anastasia’s Glow Kit in Sun Dipped which I also L O V E. There are four shades! For this one, I used “Summer” which is a light gold shade. It makes you GLOW. Seriously. Like check the picture below!!! This highlighter palette is a bit pricey but it is SO WORTH IT!!! Don’t forget to highlight the tops of your cheekbones, the tip of your nose and above your lip! And also, just a note: this highlighter is super pigmented so take it easy! A little will go a long way!

STEP 8: SETTING SPRAY

Don’t forget to lock your make-up in! Again, I wrote about this spray up there ^ 🙂 This is my holy grail!!! (Please don’t mind my awkward face, I really was spraying my face hahaha)

This finished look is actually similar to the one I did with the drugstore brands and so this comes to show that both brands/products are good and it’s up to you what you prefer to use!

As you can see, I don’t have perfect skin, but I’m okay with that 🙂 And before you ask, no, I don’t wear make-up because I am uncomfortable with my skin. I wear it because I want to.

And so go for it!!!! It’s an art that anyone can enjoy. Absolutely anyone.

My Korean Skincare Routine (Morning & Evening) 🌞🌛

This /long/ post is for those who requested/might be interested/getting into this Korean skincare thing! helloooo, I tagged some of you! 🙂 hahaha I’m writing this here cause apparently there’s a character limit on instagram which I wasn’t aware of…. ANYWAY

So this is my Korean skincare routine. These are the products I use. (Yup, all of that!) But it varies morning & evening! In this post, I included the products I use, some tips & tricks and a short opinion of each one! 🙂 hope this helps you guys!

My morning skincare routine is pretty simple.

MORNING

1. CLEANSE: COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (it makes your skin feel squeaky clean! Very good for you guys with oily skin!)
2. TONE: COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner (it brings your skin’s pH to the normal level which is about 5.5! It’s def not too harsh for your skin & helps your skin absorb the other products better)
3. ESSENCE: COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (one of my favorites! It really moisturizers my skin and helps lighten my dark spots! And it’s not heavy at all!)
4. EMULSION: COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion (it moisturizes my skin without making it look too oily! In fact, after I put it on, my face looks matte)
5. MOISTURIZE: COSRX Aloe Vera Oil-free Moisture Cream (I have oily skin and so an oil free moisturizer is better for me! Esp during the day! Plus, aloe is good for sensitive skin cause it soothes it when it’s irritated or red)
6. EYE CREAM: Skin Food Salmon Brightening Eye Cream (I just got this but it works wonders! I went through several eye creams before but they never seemed to work for me! I have dark dry under eyes and so I needed something that would really moisturize and brighten that area and so far, this has been nothing but amazing!)
7. SPF: COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream (tbh I never really liked SPF cause I didn’t like the idea of putting sunblock on my face considering that I have sensitive/acne prone skin BUT I decided to try this product anyway because wearing SPF everyday is an absolute MUST for healthy skin!! And so far, I’ve been loving this!!!! It’s not heavy at all and it doesn’t have that strong sunblock smell! I think this is the only SPF that I would ever put on my face hahaha)
8. MAKE-UP CREAM: SON&PARK Beauty Cream (not in the picture – I use this all the time before I put makeup. It pretty much preps my skin and gives me that glowy look that I really like! And it’s not heavy nor does it block my pores! So YAY)

So that’s my morning skincare routine! My nighttime skincare routine on the other hand is a bit… more complicated hahaha and so I’ll write it in parts!

EVENING

DOUBLE CLEANSE
1. OIL CLEANSER: Banila Co. Clean It Zero (I am on my 3rd tub cause this stuff is absolutely amazing! I put on heavy makeup a lot because of all my performances and gigs and so I really need an oil cleanser that takes off EVERYTHING and so far this has been it!!!! Buy it guys! You won’t regret it!!!!)
2. FOAM CLEANSER: COSRX Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser (I have acne prone skin and so I make it a point to use a cleanser with acne fighting ingredients at night! I only use this at night because I feel that if I use it twice a day, it’ll be too strong for my skin and it might just end up irritating it)
3. ***WATER CLEANSER: SON&PARK Beauty Water (this is optional for me! If I’m washing off super heavy makeup, I use this just to make sure I got everything off my face. If I’m washing off everyday makeup then I usually skip this step)

EXFOLIATION/TREAT
4. TONE: COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner
5. VITAMIN C: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (I just started using this and so far it’s been very good to my skin. I used to use c21 but it was too strong for me. Instead of helping my skin, it irritated it and so I researched cause I wanted to find something more gentle and I saw this! So if ever you want a Vitamin c serum that’s gentle on your sensitive skin, klairs is the one for you!)
****wait 10 minutes**** (you wait so that your skin will absorb the vitamin c before you put anything else! That way it’ll work better! Also, Vitamin c/BHA/AHA treatments work best on skin with a natural pH which is why before I put these on, I use the toner up there ^ which brings my skin to the normal pH level! If you use another toner that’s more acidic, the treatments may not work unless you wait 30 minutes or so after applying the toner before you put them on)
6. BHA Treatment: BHA blackhead power liquid (I only use BHA because I feel like it helps my skin better. It digs deeper into your skin compared to AHA. AHA is merely just for the surface. But my problem lies within (wow deep hahaha) I used to get a lot of big pimples but when I started using this, they were reduced because this treatment works to prevent them from ever forming! It’s your choice if you want to use both but if you only need one then just use one! It’s always important to only use what you need and not overdo it) ****wait 10 minutes AGAIN**** so that the treatment is fully absorbed by your skin

ESSENCES/AMPULES/ MOISTURIZERS/EYE CREAM (thinnest/most watery—>thickest)
7. ESSENCE: COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
8. AMPULE: COSRX Propolis Light Ampule (super gentle on my skin! I love honey/propolis and my skin loves it too so this works for me! It helps plump up my skin and gives me a really nice glow)
9. EMULSION: COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning Emulsion
10. CREAM MOISTURIZER: COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream (just started using this and it’s really good! It makes my skin so supple and soft! I use this only at night though because it’s thick and sticky and so it might make me too oily during the day considering my skin gets oily! But at night, it’s perfect cause you wake up with moisturized supple skin! and no, it doesn’t clog your pores!!)
11. EYE CREAM: Skin Food Salmon Brightening Eye Cream
12. SLEEPING PACK: Etude House Moist Up Sleeping Pack (I’ve been using this for around 7 months now every single night! It never broke me out and that is a plus considering I have acne prone skin and also since then, I have noticed that I have been waking up to fully hydrated skin! I recommend this sleeping pack for those who are just starting out! It’s really good!)

SPOT TREATMENT/EXTRAS
13. SPOT TREATMENT: Benzac AC (if I see pimples starting out, I usually put this on and it helps get rid of them! This was recommended by my derma before)
14. PIMPLE PATCH: COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch (when I see those big pimples, I put one on right away and by the next morning they’re flat!!! Like what???? Hahahaha but make sure when you put it on, the area is freshly cleansed and there is NOTHING on it! Cause the patch absorbs the bad stuff and so putting toner/essence on the pimples would prevent the bad stuff from being completely absorbed)
15. LIP SLEEPING PACK: LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Pack (I have chapped lips. Since forever. And so I decided to get something to treat it! I put this on every night and I wake up with smooth and hydrated lips! Which makes me really happy!!!!! It’s kinda pricey but I’ve had this for a few months and it’s not even halfway done so I’d like to think it’s worth it!)

MASK SHEETS/WASH-OFF MASKS

  1. Skin Food Rice Wash-Off Mask (It brightens up my skin like BAM! hahaha I really love it’s so gentle and it makes my skin feel so soft)
  2. Skin Food Black Sugar Honey Wash-Off Mask (not in the picture – this super moisturises and exfoliates my skin! After washing it off, my face feels so smooth and supple plus it smells wonderful!)
  3. Piolang 24K Gold Wrapping Mask (I personally love this cause its gold hahahaha but aside from that, it really gives me a nice glow! My skin feels so clean and bright after using this peel off mask!)
  4. Mumuso mask sheets (I use different kinds but I love them all! I use some that are for oily skin and the others have snail mucus! These are all ver affordable! You can buy them in up town hehe)
  5. Etude House mask sheets (not in the picture – I started out with these mask sheets! I love how there are different kinds and that they cater to different needs!)
  6. Tony Moly Egg cooling pack (this mask has a cooling effect which tightens your pores and so if you have enlarged pores, this mask is for you!)
  7. Indian Clay Mask (you can buy this in healthy options! This mask super cleans your skin!!!!! the description says that this mask basically gives you a facial! It’s a bit strong and so I suggest that you leave it on for only 10 minutes or so and use it once a week max!)
  8. Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask (this mask moisturises your skin and leaves it feeling full and hydrated)

Some tips and tricks to remember!

  • Before using a mask sheet, put on your toner! This helps your skin absorb everything better!
  • Use a mask sheet at least twice a week!
  • Exfoliate with a scrub/face brush at least twice a week to get rid of your dead skin cells!
  • Don’t leave masks on past 30 minutes because they could end up irritating your skin instead of helping it!
  • Patch test strong products first before putting them all over your face!
  • When incorporating new products to your skincare routine, do them slowly! Do not just start putting them on morning and evening everyday because they may not be right for your skin!
  • If it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work for you. Don’t force it or else you might hurt yourself! Look for a different product. There’s something out there for you!
  • Skincare before make-up! I, for one, love makeup but i learned (the hard way lol) that skincare should always come first! Trust me, it feels so much more amazing to put makeup on HEALTHY GLOWING SKIN! ❤

WHEW. THAT WAS LONG. So that’s my morning & night korean skincare routine! I’ve been on this routine for a few months now and I have been LOVING IT so far!!! It’s important to me to have healthy skin considering that my job requires me to put on makeup a lot and so switching to this routine has done wonders for me! Because skincare before makeup, always. So go go go!!!!
