Removing a full face of make-up can be such a hassle sometimes. Especially when all you wanna do is jump straight into bed after a long day. I for one get really lazy sometimes. I remember when I would get home, my face still full of show make-up. I’d look at myself in the mirror and debate whether to just rinse with soap and water or actually put some effort to clean everything off. To be honest, I regret the times I chose to not even try. Because in the end, it took a toll on my skin. And so I’m here to tell you to CLEAN YOUR FACE. CLEAN EVERYTHING OFF, every last bit of make-up, oil and dirt. Still lazy to do so?
Well have no fear because oil and water cleansers are here!
First of all, what are oil and water cleansers?
Oil cleansers are designed to take off all sorts of make-up as well as the excess oil and dirt from your face, as well as cleanse your pores at the same time. These can come in a liquid form or in the form of a balm.
Water cleansers ,on the other hand, are designed to take off your make-up as well as to clean and exfoliate your face (depending on the type of water cleanser). Some are even designed to moisturize and refresh your skin the process!
These are types of cleansers used in a new process popular in Korean Skincare routines, the double cleansing. This is to ensure that your skin is rid of all the make-up and dirt before applying the other treatments in your routine.
For this blog post, I chose 4 cleaners that I regularly use: 2 water cleansers and 2 oil cleansers. These cleansers are what you can use instead of your regular make-up remover to take it a notch higher! Calling all lazy girls, you might wanna read up!
Each cleanser was rated in terms of one, PACKAGING, how the cleanser is presented, two, EFFECTIVENESS, how effective it is in terms of what it says it can do, three, MAKE-UP REMOVING SKILLS, how good of a make-up remover it is, and four, PRICE, how affordable or how fair the price is.
1. BIODERMA Micellar Water HYDRABIO for DEHYDRATED SENSITIVE SKIN
This product is designed to remove all your make-up, as well as clean and moisturize your skin in the process.
It doesn’t come with a box (most of these don’t). You buy it just like this! It’s a pretty small bottle (100 mL). The cap flips open and close. Be careful though because it pours out easily and so sometimes you can waste the product if you’re not careful.
As you can see, after using the BIODERMA water cleasner, there was still make-up left on my hand, specifically some blush and a lot of eyeliner. Based on this trial, I think that if you were to use this cleanser, it would be best to use another make-up remover for your eye make-up to make sure that everything gets off.
Also, while using this cleanser, I didn’t really notice my skin becoming more moisturized as it said it would do. And so sadly, for me, this turned out to be just like my regular make-up remover which is unfortunate considering that it’s pretty pricey.

I bought this in PCX for P488!
2. SON&PARK Beauty Water
Beauty Water isn’t just a water cleanser. It also tones the skin as well as exfoliates it. This was a 2015 Soko Beauty Glam Award Winner for its effectiveness and multi-tasking abilities. It also has a pH of 4.5 and so it provides a good base for other skincare products to be put on top.
It comes in this small bottle. I got the 60mL one just to try it out. The cap twists on and off (be careful cause you may lose it hahaha). What I like about the packaging is that the hole is tiny and it’s controlled. It’s not like Bioderma that if you put it upside down, it would just spill out.
As you can see, after cleansing there still seems to be a bit of eye-liner left on my hand. And so it may not be the best make-up remover BUT I have to say that this makes a pretty good toner. I’ve been using this before putting make-up as well as to refresh my skin and it feels amazing plus it smells really good! It’s a bit pricey though. This little 60 mL bottle was P400! But I think it’s worth it.
Before you jump in though and spend 2K on a big bottle, you can do the same thing I did which was to first try the small one out and see how it works!

I bought this in an instagram shop: @darabeautymarket for P400! Check out the shop! They sell a lot of Korean skincare products! 🙂
3. BIORÉ Rinse Off Make-up Remover Cleansing Oil
I bought this just a few weeks ago and now I’m wondering why I didn’t buy it sooner…
This is a Japanese Oil Cleanser! It’s designed to remove all your make-up. It takes two squirts! Rub it all over your face, rinse it off, and all your make-up should be gone!
For the packaging, it comes in this purple bottle. It comes with a lock thingy that helps make sure that if you put it in your bag it doesn’t spill all over (not in the picture though) but it’s a pretty big bottle and so it’s a bit hard to take it around unless you bring a big bag with you all the time.
(For the oil cleansers, I decided to use a cotton pad before rinsing which is also another way to do it so that I can show how it is compared to the water cleansers)
As you can see pretty much all the make-up has disappeared! I used two squirts on the cotton pad, wiped the make-up off, rinsed and then voila! All the make-up disappeared! I have to say this is a pretty effective oil cleanser! And the price is great! P299 for a big 150mL bottle from Watsons! The only disadvantage I would say it that it makes my skin feel a bit oilier (my skin is combo/oily) because of the fact that it’s liquid and so I would suggest that if you can, avoid using this everyday (if you’re oily skinned) and only use it when you need to take off a lot of make-up!

I bought this in Watson’s for P299!
4. Banila Co. Clean it Zero
Last but definitely NOT THE LEAST is Clean it zero!!! Unlike Bioré, Clean it Zero is a balm. It is designed to remove all your make-up as well as to remove all the excess oil and dirt from your skin after a long day.
It comes in 4 kinds. I have the pink one which is basically the regular one. It comes in a tub. But in this picture, you see the bigger sized tub! (I’ll explain why I have it later 😉 The packaging is cute and simple but I guess the only disadvntage would be that it’s not really portable? It’s pretty big and heavy and so sure, you can take it with you out of town, but it won’t be easy to use it as an emergency make-up remover during the day.
Let me just say, THIS IS THE BOMB. I’ve been using this since last year and I have been loving it ever since! This is my third tub!!! I even had to buy a bigger one because I literally use this everyday (so I wanted to make tipid) cause it’s really pricey! But as you can see, it is SUPER EFFECTIVE in removing make-up and cleaning my skin! Ultimately, I prefer to use this over Bioré because it’s a balm and balms don’t make me feel as oily as liquid oil cleansers. And aside from that, I don’t only feel that all the make-up is removed but all the dirt and excess oil as well!

I bought this in Zalora for P1,299! But you can buy this in Althea for a cheaper price! It’s still pretty pricey but I can promise you, it’s worth it!
IN THE END…
Banila Co. Clean it Zero remains to be the best cleanser for me. It removes my make-up, cleans my skin and makes me feel squeaky clean afterwards. Bioré comes in second! I would actually bring it with me during the day if ever I have a show/gig because with the packaging, I can easily bring it around compared to the oil balm, Banila Co. As for the water cleansers, I only use them if I want a refresher during the day or if I’m wearing super light make-up and don’t need to use my heavy oil cleanser.
If you don’t mind taking your time removing your make-up then water cleansers are for you. Also, if you prefer a neater way to do it! But if you’re lazy and wanna take off all your make-up in one go then an oil cleanser would suit you better.
At the end of the day what matters is that you go to sleep with a clean face!
NO MAKE-UP! NO EXCESS OIL! NO DIRT! Because how you care for your face at night will reflect how you’ll look in the morning!
